New Jersey Devils Rumors: Goalie Change Coming for Game 5
The New Jersey Devils have their backs against the wall, heading back to Carolina to face the Hurricanes in Game 5, down 3-1. There's been a lot of speculation brewing about potential lineup changes and according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet there's a chance Devils head coach Lindy Ruff turns to Mackenzie Blackwood in net.
The Devils have gone back and forth between Vitek Vanecek and Akira Schmid, meanwhile Blackwood, who was once considered the team's goalie of the future has yet to see any action. There was a lot of uproar from the Devils fan base after Vanecek was named the recent starter over Schmid, so it would be curious to see how they react should Blackwood get the call.
The 26-year-old former second-round pick appeared in 22 games posting a 3.20 GAA and a .893 Sv.%. Blackwood has never appeared in the Stanley Cup Playoffs but desperate times may call for desperate measures for the Devils.
