St. Louis Blues Re-Sign Prospect
The St. Louis Blues have signed Mathias Laferriere to a one-year, two-way contract.
Laferriere spent this season with the Springfield Thunderbirds and saw a notable increase in his offensive production. After recording just seven points in 56 games with the AHL squad last year, the 22-year-old had nine goals and 26 points in 50 games this season. As a result, it is clear that his development is trending in the right direction, and now he will be aiming to build off of that with his new contract in 2023-24.
Laferriere is a prospect who may need a little more time in the AHL before making the jump to the NHL, but he has the potential to eventually become a bottom-six forward in the NHL later down the road.
Nevertheless, we will now need to wait and see how Laferriere performs for the Thunderbirds next season. If his production goes up, perhaps a call-up could be in the cards at some point during next year.
