Winnipeg Jets Forward Expecting Major Changes
The Winnipeg Jets will look much different in 2023-24 as the team struggled to find their identity in 2022-23 and now the core of the team is about to change. Jets' forward Nikolaj Ehlers is aware of what's about to transpire and confirmed the struggles of this season are going to drastically change the landscape of the franchise moving forward.
Ehlers told NHL.com:
I can't tell you what's going to happen or what needs to happen, but I'm guessing that something is going to happen, yes.
The 27-year-old Ehlers is a trade candidate this summer as he's part of the Jets core who will be in play. Last season was an off year for the speedy winger as he collected 12 goals and 26 assists in 45 games. Injuries creeped their ugly head as he missed 37 games.
Ehlers is under contract for two more seasons at $6 million annually. It's a cap hit that's very manageable for most teams and with his history of producing, including a career-high 64 points back in 2016-17. Ehlers holds a modified no-trade clause which protects him from 10 teams.
