Winnipeg Jets Rumors: Trade Development for Pierre-Luc Dubois Deal
The Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens have held trade discussions throughout the past 12 months regarding Pierre-Luc Dubois. The 24-year-old center is signed for the 2023-24 season and is a pending restricted free-agent after next season. There's been a ton of speculation he'd like to play for the Canadiens after asking to be traded to the Winnipeg Jets from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Lots to unpack for sure, but with the recent NHL Draft Lottery results, there's been an interesting development.
The Jets are likely heading for a rebuild and even if they are just looking to re-tool, could the Jets ask for the Montreal Canadiens #5 overall pick at the 2023 draft for Dubois? Is this too much? Likely not as Dubois is a true number one center who is a big body and has all the tools to play in all situations. He finished last season with 63 points in 73 games and has 80-90 point potential.
All the trade talks to this point have been circled around either Josh Anderson or Kirby Dach, but with the Canadiens landing a top-five pick, perhaps the Jets change their demands.
Two teams who will be fun to watch this summer, it appears both the Canadiens and Jets are heading for changes and Dubois is hopeful he'll be a big part of it all.
