Arizona Coyotes Sign 9-Year Veteran Defenseman

Defenseman Steven Kampfer has decided to continue his hockey journey with the Arizona Coyotes, as the team officially announced his signing on a one-year, two-way contract.

The specific details of the contract have not been disclosed.

Kampfer, a 34-year-old veteran, has had a varied NHL career, having played for teams such as the Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers, and New York Rangers.

He last appeared in the NHL during the 2020-21 season with the Bruins.

In the 2022-23 season, Kampfer spent the year in the AHL, splitting time between the Grand Rapids Griffins and Tucson Roadrunners.

Across 59 games, he scored six goals and accumulated 29 points.

Acquired by the Coyotes from the Detroit Red Wings in March, Kampfer's decision to remain with Arizona indicates his commitment to the team.

The length and terms of his new contract remain undisclosed, but it is expected that he will primarily contribute to the minor leagues during the 2023-24 season. Photo Credit: George Walker IV-USA TODAY Sports
