Boston Bruins Rumors: Defenseman Expected to be Shopped

The Boston Bruins are desperately looking to free up cap space. As a result of this, defenseman Derek Forbort is expected to be shopped this summer.

The Bruins have a surplus of NHL-caliber left-shot defensemen, so it makes sense that Forbort is coming up in the rumor mill often. After all, he carries a $3 million cap hit, and the Bruins would benefit from clearing that up. Furthermore, the Bruins could find a similar shutdown defenseman as him at a cheaper price - whether that is through free agency or trade.

Forbort proved to be a valuable player for the Bruins this season, as he was their prime penalty killer because of his reliable defensive play. In 54 games, the 31-year-old had five goals, 12 points, and a plus-12 rating. After a year like this, there should be a good amount of teams open to acquiring him this summer.

Although it would hurt to lose Forbort, the Bruins need cap space desperately, so this might be a necessary move at the end of the day.
