Calgary Flames Defenseman Signs In Sweden

Calgary Flames defenseman Kristians Rubins, known for his standout performances in the World Championships for Latvia, has secured a one-year contract with MoDo Hockey in the Swedish Hockey League.

Despite being a valuable addition as veteran depth during the AHL trade deadline, Rubins found limited playing opportunities due to established players ahead of him in the Wranglers' lineup.

This prompted his decision to explore overseas options, leading him to join MoDo Hockey in a competitive league.

Rubins showcased his skills during the 2022-23 season, contributing two goals and eight points in 45 AHL games while playing for Belleville and Calgary.

However, it was his strong display at the 2023 IIHF World Championship that truly caught attention. Playing a crucial role for Team Latvia, Rubins helped secure the bronze medal by scoring a game-winning goal in overtime against Team USA.

Joining the prestigious Swedish Hockey League offers Rubins a steady role and an opportunity to further develop his game.

A strong performance in the upcoming season with MoDo Hockey could potentially open up more enticing prospects for him in North America.
