Canucks Have Big Trade In Place For Tyler Myers

It appears as though the Vancouver Canucks have chosen the path of trading Tyler Myers instead of buying him out. This was a question some wondered, but the Canucks already bought out Oliver Ekman-Larsson and it would really hurt them to have multiple buyouts on the books while the team is trying to win.

On Sportsnet 650, Frank Seravalli reported that the Canucks have had a Myers deal on the table for weeks and believes they talked to San Jose. Moving Myers will likely cost the Canucks an asset because of the situation Vancouver is in and the cap hit the defenseman has. His play hasn't necessarily hurt the Canucks, but he is overpaid and the defense of Vancouver is being reworked after last season.

The Sharks definitely have the motivation to bring in someone like Myers as they've also been connected to right-shot defensemen like Jeff Petry and others who could be dumped. The Sharks are near the beginning of their rebuild and are also likely moving Erik Karlsson sooner than later. They will need bodies to play on the right side and a veteran would do the trick to help the younger players along. This is something to watch closely over the next week.
