Chicago Blackhawks Rumors: Avalanche Forward Becoming Free-Agent Target

The Chicago Blackhawks have been very active this offseason. Although they are rebuilding, it is clear that they also are looking to improve their roster for Connor Bedard's arrival. After adding Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno, they reportedly have another solid forward on their radar - J.T. Compher.

Compher is one of the top centers hitting the free-agent market on July 1, so he naturally is set to receive a lot of attention around the league. The 28-year-old is coming off of a strong 2022-23 campaign, posting 17 goals, 35 assists, and 52 points in 82 games played. The Blackhawks could certainly use a point-producer on their roster like him on their roster, so it makes sense that they are now considering him as a free-agent target.

The Blackhawks also have the cap space to outbid their opponents for Compher. Furthermore, with Compher still being just 28 years old, he would have the potential to be a long-term part of their core if signed.

Alas, we will now need to wait and see what happens with Compher and the Blackhawks from here. On paper, there could be a match here.
