Huge Update on Timo Meier's Future with the New Jersey Devils
The New Jersey Devils have been busy of late, re-signing Jesper Bratt to a long-term contract extension. Turns out general manager Tom Fitzgerald is hard at work, as the team is close to re-signing Timo Meier.
Meier, acquired in a mid-season blockbuster last year with the San Jose Sharks, is a restricted free agent who is open to an eight-year contract extension with the Devils. Absolute golden news for Fitzgerald and company as they will be able to get Meier's average annual value as low as possible against the cap.

The 26-year-old Meier appeared in 21 regular season games with the Devils and recorded 14 points. He then chipped in with four points in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games and will certainly look to become a bigger factor next postseason with Jersey.
The Devils have a ton of cap space remaining, even after giving Bratt $63 million over eight years. Fitzgerald sits with $26.4 million left to work with, however Meier is expected to sign for around $8 million per season. After getting Meier inked, look for the focus turn to the five other restricted free agents the Devils need to secure for next season and beyond.
