NHL Rumors: 2 Teams Linked to Joonas Korpisalo
After a strong 2022-23 season, Joonas Korpisalo is one of the top goaltenders heading into the free-agent market. The Los Angeles Kings will likely try to bring him back, but it is certainly not guaranteed to happen, as Korpisalo could get a nice contract in free agency. Due to this, two teams currently have him on their radars – the Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators.
Changes are likely coming to Pittsburgh’s net. Tristan Jarry is expected to test the market, and Casey DeSmith is not reliable enough to be a starting netminder. Therefore, the Penguins are naturally considering external options, and Korpisalo is one of their best choices when it comes to free agency.
The Senators, on the other hand, are desperately looking to find the answer in the goal. Cam Talbot was brought in last season, but he struggled. Due to this, Senators GM Pierre Dorion has confirmed that Talbot will not be back next season. With all of this, it now makes sense that the Senators are viewing Korpisalo as an option.
It will now be interesting to see what happens with Korpisalo from here. Other teams to watch in the sweepstakes include the Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Buffalo Sabres.
