NHL Rumors: 3 Free-Agent Destinations for Tyler Bertuzzi
The Boston Bruins are in tough to keep Tyler Bertuzzi and it appears he'll be headed to open market on Saturday, The Bruins are in cap hell, which is unchartered waters for them. Boston sits with a projected $10.9 million in cap space and a number of different holes to fill and restricted free agents to sign.As for Bertuzzi, here's the latest as far as where he may end up:
Washington Capitals
The Capitals are looking for some top-six help and will have serious interest in bringing Bertuzzi on board. Him and Tom Wilson on the same line would be a nightmare for other teams. The former Bruins forward loves to muck it up in the dirty areas of the ice and plays the game on the edge. He can also produce points as he recorded 16 points in 21 regular season games in Boston and another 10 points in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games. Washington sits with $7 million in cap space but are in the process of moving Evgeny Kuznetsov this summer.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs have lots going on with the extension talks with Auston Matthews and William Nylander. They also have Matt Murray to worry about as they look to get him off the books. There's also the need for another left winger as Michael Bunting is leaving the team, as is Alex Kerfoot. Bertuzzi signing won't happen unless the Leafs buy out Murray or move Nylander or a bigger contract like TJ Brodie. There's a ton of interest from President Brendan Shanahan to bring Bertuzzi on board.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes want to become tougher to play against as they got pushed around during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They also have Max Pacioretty coming off the books and a huge need for a left winger. The 'Canes hold $21 million in cap space, meanwhile also need to sign a starting goalie and add another defenseman. Bertuzzi will be getting a contract offer from Carolina on July 1 when free agency opens. If he's interested in the question.
