NHL Rumors: Free Agent Blake Wheeler Heading to the Eastern Conference
The only Atlanta Thrasher left on the Winnipeg Jets is now gone as the team announced they have placed Blake Wheeler on waivers for the purpose of a buy out. Now where? From the sounds of it, sounds like Wheeler is heading east.
Blake Wheeler’s agent — Matt Keator — indicates the winger prefers the Eastern conference: less travel and a new experience. We will see what evolves

Wheeler isn't getting any younger but he's still producing at a good clip. There's going to be a number of suitors and now the ears of a few teams just perked up including the Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers. Some wildcard teams include the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning and Buffalo Sabres.
Wheeler appeared in 72 games and recorded 55 points. He then posted six points in five Stanley Cup Playoff games and is a former captain. He wore out his welcome in Winnipeg and GM Kevin Cheveldayoff wanted to go in another direction. Wheeler's comments about the head coach after last season may have played into this decision.
Where does Wheeler end up? The Eastern Conference, final answer.
Blake Wheeler with a heartfelt thank you to the Jets organization and fans.
