NHLTR Mock Trade: Winnipeg Jets Deal Mark Scheifele to the Detroit Red Wings

Welcome to NHLTR mock trade series where we will showcase a potential 2023 offseason trade. From minor moves to major transactions, everything will be covered as we try to predict how the chips may fall this summer across the NHL.

The Winnipeg Jets are expected to make drastic changes this offseason which includes changing up their entire core. General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is having to deal with two trade requests from Pierre-Luc Dubois and Connor Hellebuyck, meanwhile several teams have called about center Mark Scheifele.

NHLTR Mock Trade: Jets move Mark Scheifele to the Detroit Red Wings for Jonatan Berggren and a 2023 first-round pick and second-round pick.

Jets perspective: Losing Scheifele hurts but if the team wants to create a new core, they will need to land some young talent loaded with potential. Berggren is a former second round pick who put up 28 points in 67 games during his rookie season. He has top-six potential and it won't be long before he's hitting 50-60 point seasons on a regular basis. The Jets would also land two top picks in the deal and give them a few pieces to develop and build their future around.

Wings perspective: The Wings land Scheifele who immediately plugs and plays among their top two center spots. He idolized Steve Yzerman as a kid and would certainly sign a long-term contract extension in Motown. Yzerman has two first-rounders for the 2023 draft and 2024 draft. The Wings also have three second-round picks in '23. There's no doubt they need to capitalize on this and land an impact player who moves the needle immediately.
