Ottawa Senators Trade Talks Picking Up in Major Way
The trade buzz in Ottawa has picked up in a major way as the Senators are listening to offers on forward Alex DeBrincat. Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported it as 'due diligence' to see what kind of return the Sens could land.
The team is going through an ownership change and once this process has been completed, the picture could become much clearer regarding DeBrincat's future. The offensive forward is in need of a new deal as he's a pending restricted free agent and does not have a contract for next season.
DeBrincat is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next summer so Ottawa is wise to see what is out there and oversee all of their options. In his first season as a Sen, the 25-year-old winger produced 66 points in 82 games as it took him a little bit to find his footing. Expect to see a bounce back performance next season and a goal total around the 35-45 mark.
Teams looking for an impact top-six winger include the Carolina Hurricanes, Washington Capitals, Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks. It's not often Friedman reports on just one player, so it does sound like something big is brewing in Ottawa.
