Pittsburgh Penguins Re-Sign Forward

The Pittsburgh Penguins are keeping one of their younger players around, signing Valtteri Puustinen to a one-year contract. At the NHL level, he will carry a $775,000 cap hit.

Puustinen will be looking to make the Penguins' NHL roster in 2023-24. The 24-year-old has shown that he can be a strong offensive contributor at the AHL level, so there is a chance that we see him get bottom-six minutes with Pittsburgh next season. In 72 AHL games in 2022-23, he posted 24 goals to go along with 59 points.

After failing to make the playoffs this season, the Penguins could look to make some changes to their group. They have a few bottom-six forwards who are pending UFAs, so it could open the door to Puustinen to crack the NHL lineup. However, at a minimum, he will continue to be a key part of their AHL roster.

We will now need to wait and see how Puustinen performs next season from here.
