St. Louis Blues Re-Sign Defenseman
The St. Louis Blues have made a roster move, as they have re-signed defenseman Scott Perunovich to a one-year, one-way contract. He will carry a $775,000 cap hit for the 2023-24 season.
Perunovich is a young defenseman with a good amount of potential. However, he also has dealt with plenty of injuries over his short professional career. The 24-year-old missed the first six months of the year last season. However, once he returned, he was excellent with the Springfield Thunderbirds, posting 20 points in 22 AHL games. Therefore, it is not surprising to see that he has earned himself a one-way deal this time around.
Perunovich will now look to earn himself a permanent spot in the Blues’ lineup next season. When looking at their group, there is reason to believe that he could play bottom-pairing minutes. With that, his strong offensive instincts would allow him to be in the running to receive power-play time.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if this will be the season where Perunovich proves that he is capable of being a full-time NHL defenseman. The potential is there, but the big test for him will be staying healthy.
