St Louis Blues Rumors: Defenseman Trade Being Discussed
The St Louis Blues will be active this offseason as general manager Doug Armstrong isn't happy with his roster. The Blues missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs and adjustments need to be made to get them back into Cup contention. Last season saw several huge trades completed by Armstrong and it turns out there could be another big one on the way this summer.
According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Blues will very likely be moving a defenseman this summer and the likes of Justin Fault and Colton Parayko are prime options. Seravalli had this to say in a recent article:
Pick one, anyone, but GM Doug Armstrong is looking to create flexibility on his salary cap by moving one of his higher-priced defensemen. We know Torey Krug isn’t going anywhere, but the rest are up for grabs. Interest seemed to percolate on Parayko around the deadline, but he still has nearly $45 million remaining on his massive contract over the next seven seasons. That’s a big commitment for a big man.
As Seravalli mentions, the no-trade protection will be tough to manage but it's no impossible. It's likely the Blues GM will approach both Faulk and Parayko and ask for a number of teams they are open to joining to get the conversations rolling.
St Louis has three first-round picks and could have to package one of them to complete the type of trade they're looking for which will create a ton of financial flexibility moving forward.
