Winnipeg Jets Rumors: Mark Scheifele Linked to Contender

After another underwhelming season, change is on the way for the Winnipeg Jets. Mark Scheifele is one of the many trade candidates heading into the offseason, and the star center is now garnering interest from one of the league's best teams – the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes need help down the middle, and this has been an ongoing issue since Vincent Trocheck left through free agency last season. Yet, they have not found a top-six center to replace him, as players like Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Paul Stastny were no answers for the 2C role. Scheifele, on the other hand, would help change that immediately if acquired.

Scheifele is entering the final season of his contract, and that is a major reason why the Jets are considering the prospect of moving him. With the Hurricanes being among the league's top contenders, it makes sense that they want to add Scheifele, even if he is a free agent next summer (2024).

Scheifele is coming off of a solid 2022-23 season that saw him post 42 goals and 68 points. The Hurricanes adding that kind of production to their forward group would be massive, but we will need to wait and see if they can win the Scheifele sweepstakes from here.
