Best Free-Agent Defensemen Still Available On Day 2

Day 2 of NHL free agency is here and most of the top defensemen are off the board. However, there are still some decent options available for the taking. Let's discuss them now.

Matt Dumba: Longtime top-four defenseman Matt Dumba is still looking for his new home, and that is something that should change shortly. A return to the Minnesota Wild is unlikely to occur given their cap situation, but some teams to watch in the sweepstakes include the Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, and Ottawa Senators.

Travis Hamonic: Travis Hamonic is another veteran defenseman who should find a new home soon. He is still a solid shutdown defenseman at this point of his career, and teams looking for help on their bottom pairing are likely to call.

Marc Staal: Marc Staal has yet to find his new home. With the Florida Panthers signing several defensemen on Day 1, a return to the Sunrise is not guaranteed. He showed this season that he can still be effective, posting three goals, 15 points, 152 hits, and a plus-10 rating. Look for him to garner interest.
