Big Update Regarding Maple Leafs' Matt Murray
The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that goaltender Matt Murray is out indefinitely and will be placed on long-term injured reserve before the start of the 2023-24 season.
Murray had been the subject of both trade and buyout rumors this entire offseason. Yet, neither of these two options will be happening, as Murray will instead be on LTIR.
The Maple Leafs are currently $11.6 million above the cap. Once Murray and Jake Muzzin are placed on LTIR, that will give them $10.3 million of savings. Even with that, they will still need to clear $1.29 million of cap space (per PuckPedia).
Murray appeared in 26 games this past season for the Maple Leafs, where he posted a 14-8-2 record, 3.01 goals-against average (GAA), and .903 save percentage (SV%).
Alas, we will need to see what else the Maple Leafs do to fix their cap space before the start of the season from here.
