Boston Bruins Bring In Veteran Forward
The Boston Bruins have added to their middle six, signing James van Riemsdyk to a one-year, $1 million contract.
The Bruins were expected to be on the hunt for a left winger this offseason. Taylor Hall was dealt to the Chicago Blackhawks, while Tyler Bertuzzi is expected to leave in free agency. Therefore, the Bruins have now landed JVR and at a very affordable price.
van Riemsdyk may not be a top-six forward anymore, but he is still plenty capable of producing in a third-line role. In 61 games this past season with the Philadelphia Flyers, the 2007 second-overall pick posted 12 goals to go along with 29 points.
JVR will now give the Bruins more depth on the wing and overall experience. It will be intriguing to see if joining a team with a stronger offense will allow him to produce more again. Time will tell what happens on that front.
