Senators Make Huge Signing Between The Pipes

After using seven different goalies this past season, the Ottawa Senators have hit the free agent market to solidify their netminding significantly, handing out a five-year contract to Joonas Korpisalo for $20M.

The deal will net Korpisalo a $4M AAV over the five seasons.

A solid 8-year veteran, Korpisalo has a career GAA of 3.06 with a .903 save percentage. Last season, split between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Los Angeles Kings, he posted a 2.87 GAA with a .914 SV%. He had a nice year even behind the awful Blue Jackets defense, but he especially shined down the stretch with a very good defense in LA, going 7-3-1 with a 2.13 GAA and .921 save percentage.

The Senators were top 10 in the league in most defensive metrics, but haven't had the goaltending needed to compete, and this will certainly give them that stability they've needed between the pipes.
