Buffalo Sabres Sign Top Prospect
The Buffalo Sabres have signed top prospect Zach Benson to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Benson was selected by the Sabres with the 13th overall pick of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, and he is expected to become a big part of their future. This is understandable, as the young winger is viewed as having all of the tools to blossom into a top-six forward at the NHL level later down the road.
Benson spent this past season with the Winnipeg Ice of the WHL, where he posted 36 goals to go along with 98 points in 60 games played. It was a huge year for the 18-year-old, and he was expected to go earlier in the draft because of it. However, he fell right into the Sabres' hands, and he has the potential to be a real steal because of it.
We will now need to wait and see how much of an impact Benson makes for the Sabres once he makes their NHL club. He may need another year in junior before then, but time will tell what happens on that front.
