Calgary Flames Rumors: Latest on Elias Lindholm
Calgary Flames star forward Elias Lindholm is entering the final season of his contract, and there has been some trade speculation centering around him. Even with this being the case, the Flames are still hoping to re-sign Lindholm, according to Elliotte Friedman.
In recent years, the Flames have had trouble keeping their notable players around. The two biggest examples are Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk. Tyler Toffoli was also traded this summer. Noah Hanifin and Mikael Granlund have made it known that they do not want to sign extensions as they enter the final years of their contract. As a result, we have heard chatter about Hanifin and Granlund, but as it stands now, Calgary's goal is to keep Lindholm.
The real question is if Lindholm will break this ongoing pattern and be open to signing a long-term deal with the Flames instead of hitting the market. This is something that we will need to pay attention to. If Lindholm makes it clear that he wishes to test the market next summer, he could end up on the block.
We will need to wait and see if the Flames can successfully re-sign Lindholm. He is easily one of their top players, so it is understandable why they are hoping to.
