Calgary Flames Sign Key Prospect

The Calgary Flames have brought a key prospect on board, agreeing to terms on a three-year entry-level contract with 2023 first-round pick Sam Honzek.

The contract has a $950,000 AAV.

At 6'4", the 16th overall pick in the June draft is a skilled power forward with good size. Honzek was a dominant force in the WHL this past season with the Vancouver Giants, notching 23 goals and 33 assists for 56 points in 43 games.

"We were happy to have selected Samuel in this year's draft and as equally pleased today to have him signed to his entry level agreement," said Flames General Manager Craig Conroy. "We entered the draft looking to add skill with size to our group and Samuel is a textbook example. He had an impressive showing at development camp, and we are excited to watch him build on that at main camp in September."

The 18-year-old Slovakian becomes the 10th first-rounder from the 2023 NHL Draft to put pen to paper. He'll be at Flames' camp in the fall, and then is expected to play for Vancouver once again in the WHL.
