Colorado Avalanche Bring Back Veteran Defenseman
The Colorado Avalanche are bringing back an old friend, as they have signed Jack Johnson to a one-year, $775,000 cap hit.
This will be the third season in a row that Johnson will play for the Avalanche. He was a part of their 2022 Stanley Cup Championship club and was dealt by the Chicago Blackhawks back to the Avalanche at the deadline last season. In 83 games split between the two clubs in 2022-23, he had two goals and eight points.
This signing will provide the Avalanche with more defensive depth for next season. He could be an option for their bottom pairing, but he also would be a good seventh defenseman to have around as well.
Johnson will also give the Avalanche more experience for the 2023-24 season. Over the course of his 17-year career, he has appeared in 1,107 career games, where he has 74 goals, 246 assists, and 320 points.
It will be intriguing to see how well Johnson performs for the Avalance this season. Overall, this is simply a depth move for Colorado.
