Colorado Avalanche Rumors: Defenseman Becoming Free-Agent Target

Cal Foote is one of the top free-agent defensemen still looking for a new home. One team who is starting to emerge as a possible landing spot for him is the Colorado Avalanche.

After losing Erik Johnson to the Buffalo Sabres in free agency, the Avalanche are in a position to add to their right side. There are not too many notable right-shot defensemen still left in free agency, but Foote would have the potential to be a decent addition. He would be a candidate for bottom-pairing minutes or could even be a solid option for the seventh defenseman role.

Foote also has a connection with the Avalanche, as his father, Adam Foote, is of course a major figure in their history. Perhaps this could be enough for the Avalanche to sign Cal to a cheap one-year deal.

Foote spent this past season split between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Nashville Predators, posting two goals and seven points in 50 games. Let's see if the Avalanche take a chance on the 2017 first-round pick from here.
