Detroit Red Wings' Filip Zadina Placed On Waivers

The Detroit Red Wings have placed former top prospect Filip Zadina on waivers.

Zadina was selected with the sixth-overall pick of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. He was expected to become a future top-six winger at the NHL level, but that just has not come to fruition with the Red Wings. Now, after making several additions to their roster in free agency, Zadina has become the odd man out.

Zadina was limited to only 30 games this past season with the Red Wings, where he had three goals, four assists, and a minus-5 rating. It was an underwhelming year for the 23-year-old, and injuries played a part in that. Now, he is on the waiver wire, and teams around the league have the chance to steal him from Detroit.

There certainly could be some teams willing to take a chance on a former top prospect like Zadina. Although he has yet to take that next step, perhaps a change of scenery could be the spark he needs.

Alas, we will need to wait and see what happens with Zadina from here. He carries a $1.825 million cap hit until the completion of the 2024-25 season.
