Flyers Sign Victor Mete & Give Him NHL Opportunity

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed Victor Mete as they continue to dive into a rebuild. Elliotte Friedman first reported it and Mete's salary will be $775,000 at the NHL level and $450,00 in the AHL, with $500,000 guaranteed. He will be joining the team on a one-year deal.

Mete is only 25 years old but has jumped around to a few teams already in his young career. The best chance he was given was at age 19-21 when he prematurely played in the NHL for the Montreal Canadiens. He went his first two seasons and well over 100 games without scoring his first goal, and was then shipped off to the Ottawa Senators where he hardly played. The same thing happened with the Toronto Maple Leafs last year as he was never going to see much NHL ice time with as many defenders as they had.

He has a new opportunity in Philadelphia with a different type of coach that seems to get the most out of his players who aren't extremely talented. Ivan Provorov was already shipped out earlier this offseason and Tony DeAngelo should follow soon enough. With opportunity on the Flyers and a mix of veterans and young players, Mete should have a chance to play more games and elevate his game. This is a very low risk move for the Flyers that could end up paying off.
