Former Anaheim Ducks Forward Signs Overseas
Former Anaheim Ducks forward Derek Grant has signed a one-year contract with the ZSC Lions of the Swiss National League.
It is a little surprising to see that Grant was unable to find a new home in the NHL. He showed that he was still an effective bottom-six forward in the NHL, posting five goals and 18 points in 46 games (32-point pace in 82 games). With that, he was noticeably strong at the faceoff dot, winning 55.2% of his draws. Thus, it seemed possible that he would get a cheap one-year deal, but alas, he is now heading overseas.
Grant has 10 years of NHL experience, split between the Buffalo Sabres, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, and Ducks. In 427 career games, he has 57 goals, 75 assists, and 132 points.
We will now need to wait and see if Grant has a big season with the Lions. If he does, perhaps it could open the door to a return to the NHL in the future.
