Free-Agent Forward Done In Boston, Bruins GM Confirms

The Boston Bruins lost two of their notable UFAs on July 1, Dmitry Orlov (Carolina Hurricanes) and Garnet Hathaway (Philadelphia Flyers). Yet, it isn’t going to stop there, as GM Don Sweeney told reporters that the door is closed on a potential Tyler Bertuzzi re-signing.

Bertuzzi remains a free agent at the time of this writing, and he is receiving a plethora of interest around the league. Unlike the majority of other big-name free agents, he is taking his time and weighing his options. Yet, given Sweeney’s words, don’t expect Bertuzzi to end up back in Boston.

The Bruins are certainly going to miss Bertuzzi. He was their top forward during the postseason and provided them with a beautiful mixture of scoring and grit. However, Bertuzzi’s asking price became too great, and he will be elsewhere because of it.

It will be intriguing to see if the Bruins decide to make any other forward additions before the start of the season. James van Riemsdyk is a good start, but it wouldn’t be bad to add some more depth.
