Kings Re-Sign Young Defenseman Tobias Bjornfot

The Los Angeles Kings got a little business done as they locked up their only remaining RFA in the NHL, Tobias Bjornfot, to a two-year, $775,000 AAV deal. Both years are a one-way and he will be a RFA again at the end of the contract, this time with arbitration rights.

The 22-year-old was drafted 22nd overall by the Kings in 2019 and didn't get much of a chance to play in the NHL last season due to the amount of defense the team had. Now that they have made a couple of moves sending Sean Durzi and Sean Walker on their way, Bjornfot is expected to have a spot on the team in 2023-24.

He recorded just one assist in 10 NHL games last season, but scored five goals and 12 points in 50 AHL games. As you might have been able to tell, Bjornfot's game is not focused on the offensive side of the puck and he will either be paired with Matt Roy or Brandt Clarke. Bjornot will have a great opportunity to once again stick in the NHL as he had played 70 games the season prior. There's nobody standing in his way now and on the third pairing, he will get more favourable matchups.
