Leafs Rumors: Toronto Tried To Sign Free Agent Defenseman

The Toronto Maple Leafs recently made a concerted effort to bolster their defensive lineup by pursuing defenseman Matt Dumba, according to Elliotte Friedman.

Recognizing the left-heavy composition of their blue line, the Leafs identified the need for a right-handed defenseman and set their sights on Dumba.

This past season, the 28-year-old recorded four goals and 14 points across 79 games played with the Minnesota Wild, his worst point total over his 10-year career.

The interest in Dumba showcased the Leafs' commitment to strengthening their defensive core and creating a more well-rounded lineup.

By targeting Dumba, a right-shot defenseman, they aimed to bring greater balance to their blue line and enhance their overall defensive capabilities.

The Leafs also added defenseman John Klingberg recently, addressing their defensive needs.
