Maple Leafs Rumors: Team Still In On Big Free Agent After Signing Bertuzzi

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some moves over the first two days of free agency that have some people question Brad Treliving, but he has also made some solid moves. The Tyler Bertuzzi addition was something that needed to happen for the team, but it looks like they might not be done just yet adding to their forward group.

The Maple Leafs' forward group took a hit before free agency as they didn't bring back a group of impactful forwards including Michael Bunting, Ryan O'Reilly, Alex Kerfoot, and Noel Acciari. They have seemingly no cap space to work with, but that can change if Matt Murray is traded. All signs have been pointing to that outcome, especially since he wasn't bought out during the first buyout window.

There are actually some interesting names still on the market, Max Domi included, and he's still being linked to the Maple Leafs by multiple sources including David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period. The 28-year-old should get somewhere between $3-4 million as free agency goes on and if he wants to win, will have to take less to go to a contender on a one-year deal. Just as Bertuzzi is doing, Domi could look to cash in when the salary cap rises next year.

If Toronto adds Domi to their top-six for a reasonable price and only have to ship out Murray, their forward group will be much deeper than it was after the first day of free agency. Other teams still have their eye on Domi as well, so Toronto isn't a lock, even though they have been heavily connected to him.
