Montreal Canadiens Re-Sign Forward
The Montreal Canadiens have made a minor move, re-signing Mitchell Stephens to a one-year, two-way contract. At the NHL level, Stephens will carry a $775,000 cap hit.
Stephens spent the entirety of this past season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Laval Rocket, posting 20 goals to go along with 41 points in 68 games. Although he did not receive a call-up during the campaign, he was still quite effective in the AHL. Thus, it makes sense that the Canadiens have decided to bring him back for another year.
Stephens stands out as a call-up candidate for the Canadiens for when injuries inevitably arise during next season.
In 72 career NHL games split between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings, Stephens has three goals, 10 assists, and 13 points. Let's see if he receives the opportunity to improve upon these career stats with the Canadiens next season.
