Montreal Canadiens Sign Alex Newhook to Multi-Year Deal
The Montreal Canadiens have signed recent trade acquisition Alex Newhook to a four-year, $11.6 million contract.
The Canadiens acquired Newhook from the Colorado Avalanche earlier this offseason. The 22-year-old is viewed as having a lot of potential, as evidenced by Colorado selecting him 16th overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
Newhook appeared in 82 games last season with the Avalanche, where he had 14 goals to go along with 30 points. Although he has yet to take off as a top-six forward, the Canadiens are betting on his potential, as evidenced by this multi-year deal.
In 159 career game over three seasons, Newhook has 27 goals, 39 assists, and 66 points.
Alas, we will need to wait and see how well Newhook performs for the Canadiens during the duration of his new expected contract. On paper, this looks like it could become a very good move for Montreal, but time will tell on that front.
