New Jersey Devils Re-Sign Young Defenseman

The New Jersey Devils have re-signed Kevin Bahl to a two-year, $2.1 million contract ($1.05 million AAV).

Bahl appeared in a career-high 42 games this past season with the Devils, where he posted two goals to go along with eight points and a plus-4 rating. He also made a notable impact with his physicality, posting 64 hits. Now, the 23-year-old will be aiming to build off of his solid season and cement himself a permanent spot in the Devils' roster.

At a minimum, Bahl will serve as a solid depth defenseman for the Devils in 2023-24. However, when noting that he is starting to show signs of progression with his development, there seems to be a chance that he will emerge as a solid shutdown defenseman on the roster moving forward.

With this signing, the Devils currently have just over $1.9 million of cap space. This could lead to them making another depth move before the start of the season.

Nevertheless, we will need to wait and see how well Bahl performs for the Devils from here.
