NHL Rumors: 2 Teams Eyeing Martin Jones

Martin Jones is still looking for a home three weeks into free agency. Although this is the case, the 33-year-old is receiving interest from the Tampa Bay Lightning and St. Louis Blues.

The Lightning have yet to find a replacement for Brian Elliott for the backup role. With Jones still available for the taking, it makes sense that they are considering him as an option for the role. With free agency now multiple weeks in, Jones is likely to take a cheaper contract, thus making him a potential option for the Lightning.

The Blues, on the other hand, have a promising young netminder in Joel Hofer. However, it also would make sense for them to bring in Jones to give them another option for the backup role if Hofer proves not to be ready. Ultimately, a team can never have too much insurance in the goal, so don't be surprised if the Blues end up inking Jones to a cheap one-year deal for some depth.

We will need to wait and see if Jones ends up getting picked up by one of these two teams before the start of the season from here.
