NHL Rumors: 2 Teams Linked to Phil Kessel

Phil Kessel is looking to continue his career, but he has yet to find a new home over three weeks into free agency. Yet, there is interest in the three-time Stanley Cup champion, as the Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche have been linked to the 35-year-old.

The Lightning suffered a big loss to their top six this summer, as Alex Killorn signed with the Anaheim Ducks. Although Kessel is unlikely to produce at the same level as Killorn at this juncture of his career, he is still an effective middle-six forward. Thus, he could be a nice fit on their second line with Brandon Hagel and Anthony Cirelli. He also would be a lock for their power play if signed.

Colorado, on the other hand, still could use more forwards before the start of the season. Their depth on the right wing is not particularly strong, but adding Kessel would help improve it. He would be a nice addition to their third line and would give them another solid weapon for their power play.

In 82 games this past season with the Vegas Golden Knights, Kessel posted 14 goals to go along with 36 points.
