NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Landing Spots for RHD Matt Dumba
Free-agent defenseman Matt Dumba continues to be the best player available on the open market. There's been talks with several teams, but this point no deal. Dumba is soon-to-be 29 years old and is still in the prime of his career. It's a bit surprising to see him still available, but nonetheless, here's where he could be signing in the coming days:
San Jose Sharks
Word is the Sharks are hoping to move Erik Karlsson and receive a package for the future, while also signing Dumba to a short-term contract to help fill in the minutes. To this point, Karlsson talk have included the Penguins and Hurricanes but no trade yet. Keep an eye on San Jose as they have loads of cap space, and potentially a giant hole to fill in the lineup.
Arizona Coyotes
The Coyotes have apparently reached out and talks continue, but to this point, Dumba hasn't put his name on the dotted line. The 'Yotes are looking to take a giant step forward in 2023-24 and if they are going to be taken seriously, they'll need to revamp their d-core, and adding Dumba would be a huge help. He's not as offensive as he once was, but he's a great penalty killer and loves to use his body to impact the game. Word is there's a lot of mutual interest involved here...
Friedman on Dumba/Yotes (32TP): "Matt Dumba has not signed yet, I think this could be where he ends up...Arizona has a spot open and I think he's a player they have interest in"

Toronto Maple Leafs
Before signing John Klingberg to a one-year deal, the Leafs contacted Dumba with interest. They could still circle back as GM Brad Treliving continues to discuss several trades, one in which could be involving TJ Brodie. Dumba would be a huge upgrade over Connor Timmins for the Leafs and he'd help replace losing Luke Schenn to the Nashville Predators.
Look for Dumba's new deal to be signed sometime over the next week as contract talks continue with a few different teams.
