NHL Rumors: Latest on Patrick Kane's Free Agency Plans
Patrick Kane is one of the top free agents left on the market. The future Hall of Famer is not expected to make a decision regarding his next destination for a while. According to ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, Kane is expected to sign a one-year deal once he does make his decision.
Kane is currently recovering from hip surgery, so it is understandable that he is not rushing his decision. Furthermore, that is also likely a reason why he is expected to settle for a one-year pact. With that, the salary cap is expected to go up after next season, so he could land a bigger payday if he puts together a strong 2023-24 season.
Kane is coming off of a down season for his standards, posting 21 goals and 57 points in 73 games split between the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks. Although those are not bad numbers by any means, the Buffalo native posted a 92-point campaign in 78 games just the season before. Thus, a bounce-back campaign could be in order.
Alas, we will need to wait and see where Kane ends up signing from here, but expect it to be a one-year deal.
