NHLTR Mock Trade: Ottawa Senators Trade Alex DeBrincat to the New York Islanders

Welcome to the NHLTR mock trade series where we will showcase a potential 2023 offseason trade. From minor moves to major transactions, everything will be covered as we try to predict how the chips may fall this summer across the NHL.

For today's deal we head to Canada's capital and check in on the Ottawa Senators. They continue to try and move Alex DeBrincat and while a move to the Detroit Red Wings is possible, the New York Islanders may have other ideas. The Isles are advanced in talks and a trade could go down in the coming days. One that may look like this:

NHLTR Mock Trade: Senators trade DeBrincat to the Islanders in exchange for Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Oliver Wahlstrom and a 2024 second-round pick.

Sens Perspective: GM Pierre Dorion has no choice but to move DeBrincat and has been put into a corner. In this deal Ottawa gets back a proven veteran they're familiar with in Pageau, Wahlstrom, who is a former first-round pick and has some serious potential and a future pick to add another piece to build around. The offer the Red Wings can fork over likely doesn't rival this type of talent and depth.

Islanders Perspective: The Islanders want another game-changer and DeBrincat has shown in the past he can hit 40 goals with ease. Money is tight on Long Island and there's zero chance the team makes this trade unless Pageau is included. New York is tied up a bit with no-trade clauses up front and if they are able to pull off this trade and add a star forward like DeBrincat, it could totally refresh their offense for next season.
