Philadelphia Flyers Sign Winger
The Philadelphia Flyers are adding some serious grit to their lineup, signing winger Garnet Hathaway to a two-year, $4.75 million contract.
Hathaway certainly fits the classic Flyer style of play. He is a very physical player, as his whopping 268 hits in 84 games this past season split between the Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins effectively display. However, he also puts up decent scoring in a bottom-six role as well, which is 13 goals and 22 points this past season show.
Although the Flyers are rebuilding, this move shows that they are still willing to make additions to their roster. Hathaway will serve as a nice mentor for the club's younger players, as he has plenty of NHL experience. With that, he will be a good player to have around to protect their other players as well.
It will be interesting to see how Hathaway performs as a Flyer from here. On paper, there seems to be a very good match here, and he should become a fan favorite in Philly rather quickly because of his extreme work ethic.
