San Jose Sharks Rumors: Erik Karlsson Trade Almost Happened on July 1
The Pittsburgh Penguins have been one of the main teams linked to Erik Karlsson this offseason. Although the Karlsson sweepstakes are still going on, they almost ended, as The Athletic's Josh Yohe reported that the Penguins were "extremely close" to acquiring the star defenseman on July 1.
The Penguins are still in the mix for Karlsson's services, but it is interesting to think that they almost landed him just under two weeks ago.
The Penguins are understandably looking to make a big move, as they just missed on the playoffs last season and want to be contenders. Furthermore, franchise players like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang are not getting any younger. Thus, now is a must-win time for Pittsburgh, and adding another star like Karlsson would help their chances.
Karlsson is coming off of a truly spectacular season, posting 25 goals, 76 assists, and 101 points. Adding that kind of offensive production to the point would be fantastic for the Penguins, so let's see if they can work something out with San Jose shortly.
