St. Louis Blues Sign Prospect Defenseman

The St. Louis Blues have signed defenseman Jeremie Biakabutuka to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Biakabutuka attended the Blues' development camp last year, but it did not lead to a contract. However, it has worked out for him this time around, and now he officially has his first NHL contract because of it. He also tried out for the Detroit Red Wings two summers ago.

Biakabutuka spent this past season with the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL, where he posted new career highs in goals (17), assists (25), and points (42). He also appeared in three games on an AHL tryout with the Grand Rapids Griffins, posting zero points in three contests.

Biakabutuka is expected to play in the AHL next season with the Springfield Thunderbirds, where he will be aiming to make a big impact. It will be interesting to see how the 21-year-old develops during the duration of his entry-level contract from here.
