Toronto Maple Leafs Sign Defenseman
The Toronto Maple Leafs lost two right-shot defensemen in free agency (Luke Schenn and Justin Holl). Now, they have added one, as they have signed John Klingberg to a one-year, $4.15 million contract.
Klingberg was among the top defensemen on the free-agent market, and the Maple Leafs are the lucky team to land him. The 30-year-old is set to have a top-four role for the Maple Leafs and become a major part of their power play unit.
Klingberg spent this past season split between the Anaheim Ducks and Minnesota Wild, recording 10 goals and 33 points in 67 games played. Overall, it was another solid year for the veteran, and he will now be aiming to translate that offense over to the Leafs.
When noting that Klingberg will have an array of stars to play with in Toronto, it could be enough for him to see his production go up a bit more. Keep in mind, he is an offensive defensemen and will have several weapons to work with in Toronto.
Nevertheless, it will be intriguing to see how Klingberg performs as a Leaf in 2023-24.
