Wild Provide Great Opportunity For Filip Zadina

Filip Zadina agreed to terminate his contract with the Detroit Red Wings and left over $4.5 million on the table, meaning an opportunity/playing time is more important at this time being than the money. The former sixth overall pick is definitely betting on himself with this move, and it could pay off if he signs with the right team.

There will be teams who aren't that great interested in the new free agent and could offer him more money because they have that available, but there is a team that is bound to be fighting for a playoff spot and likely to get in again this season that need talent like Zadina's in their bottom-six, particularly on their third line.

While the Red Wings got very crowded up front and gave some new contracts out, Zadina was left without an opportunity. In Minnesota, there's a couple of spots on the wing that can be upgraded and provide him with the chance to play in a more prominent role. As of right now, Connor Dewar could play on the third line after scoring just six goals and 18 points in 81 games.

While Zadina only got into 30 games last season for Detroit, he put up 10 goals and 24 points the season prior. The 23-year-old will be highly motivated and have that much more experience under his belt. The Wild won't be able to hand out the bag, but he also won't have to sign a league-minimum deal to get a chance to play on a good team bound for playoff hockey.
