3 Players Blues Could Trade Next
The St. Louis Blues look like a pretty different team than they did prior to last season's trade deadline. They got younger and took on some players that weren't really wanted by their former teams. This will at least keep them in the conversation this season. But as a team that missed the playoffs in 2022-23, there are some players with something to prove. There could also be some movement if they fall flat again. Let's take a look at who the Blues could trade next.
Jakub Vrana
Jakub Vrana is the flashiest name on this list, and that's because the team has a lot of their talent locked in for a number of years. He was brought in last season and even though he only got into 20 games, he showed the scoring touch he had before taking time away from the game because of personal issues. He will likely be slotted in on the second or third line and has the potential to score. If the Blues decide they are out of the playoff race by the time the trade deadline rolls around, he could be a cheap and underrated addition by a contender on a low cap hit.
Robert Bortuzzo
Robert Bortuzzo's name is here because he didn't have much of an impact last season for the Blues and spots need to be opened up on defense. Doug Armstrong, the general manager, hasn't done a very good job in negotiating contracts with certain players as the team's top four defensemen all have full no-trade clauses for at least one more year. They tried to move a bigger name, but nothing budged. Bortuzzo played just half of the games last season and logged fewer than 13 minutes a game. The Blue will want to designate a roster spot to Tyler Tucker or Scott Perunovich now.
Oskar Sundqvist
Oskar Sundqvist was moved at last season's trade deadline by the Detroit Red Wings over to the Minnesota Wild. This is what might happen again this season as he is a big fourth line presence who can also produce a bit of offense, perfect for playoff hockey. Again, if the Blues are out of it, he could very well be a piece that is moved for a small return so that there is space for a younger player to get a call up and some playing time.
