Arizona Coyotes Rumors: Nick Schmaltz Listed as Trade Candidate

The Athletic recently released their latest trade targets board, and one intriguing name discussed is Arizona Coyotes forward Nick Schmaltz.

Schmaltz has come up in the rumor mill before, and it ultimately makes sense. The Coyotes are still rebuilding, and his contract is a back-loaded deal. Due to this, his salary (not cap hit) increases over the next three seasons, and that is not ideal for a low-market team like the Coyotes. 

Schmaltz has quietly been a very good top-six forward over the last two seasons with the Coyotes, so his value is fairly high at this juncture. In 63 games last season with the Coyotes, he posted 22 goals to go along with 58 points and a plus-4 rating.

Several teams could use a high-impact forward like Schmaltz on their roster right now, so we will need to wait and see if he ends up being dealt during this upcoming season from here.
